I was having lunch with one of my colleagues, and I was having salad. He was having Dal rice with some chutney.
He says ” Why are you eating this now?”
Its 12 noon and I think I am eating lunch. “Why, what’s wrong?”
“You should enjoy now only” he says
“I am enjoying it”.
“This plain leaves, vegetables. You can eat them when you cross 40, any way that time your body will not support spicy food”, he says.
“As an Indian, can’t I eat anything without the famed Indian spices?”
“You can eat but your body should work fine so you have to eat Indian food”, The great lover of Indian food says.
“I am tired of preparing Indian curries and I am just eating Salad, I don’t know if Indian Gods will forgive me but you please do not curse me, my lord”
There is this misconception among the many Indians that Good food is the one which is tasty, spicy, chilly…anything other than that is equivalent to grass.
1.Good food is the one which gives energy and all the essential nutrients.
2. Good food is the one which is light on stomach and does not make you sleepy after eating.
3. Good food need not be tasty or spicy because stomach does not have any taste buds.
4. Good food which prepares your body best for the demands of growing up and old age.
5. Good food is not the one which titillates a few taste buds of the tongue.
Salad is a good food for my body and I think for many others.

It is Fall season, cold winds are blowing and there were two trees. One tree is getting ready for the winter by preparing to shed its leaves. Its leaves are turning yellow and then red.
The other one is defiant and trying hard to stay green. It is proud of its perseverance to the cold north winds.
The Green tree says to Yellow tree ” See that guy, he is taking pictures of you, Doesn’t he know that you are losing all your greenish charm, here I am standing green and tall and he is neglecting me”.
Yellow Tree: ” He likes my color!”
Green Tree: “Your leaves are falling, can’t he see that?”
Yellow Tree: ” Don’t Disturb, let me pose for the pictures”.
Green Tree: ” I am the one who is still taking CO2. They and their vehicles are farting and I am still cleaning, Can’t he see that?”
Yellow Tree: ” I am just preparing for the winter!”
Green Tree: ” I am defying the cold to stay green and no one is noticing”
Yellow Tree: ” You have to go with the tide, more clicks please”
Green Tree: “The cold is bending my spine and this self-centered moron (me in this case) is taking your pictures”
Yellow Tree: ” It’s still not late, you too turn yourselves red”.

Today is Dussera or Vijaya Dashami festival, celebrated commemorating the victory of Good over evil. This also marks the beginning of harvest season in India and on this day everyone does Ayudha pooja (praying the weapons, vehicles, tools).
It is on this day(10th day) Goddess Durga killed the powerful demon Mahishasura after a fierce 9 day battle. It is also celebrated for the victory Lord Rama over Ravana.
These events have happened long back and until now it is only Ravana, Narakasura, Mahishasura.. who are branded to represent the Evil, and Rama, Krishna, Durga.. who are Good. Year after year it is only these battles which are fought and it is the same ones who won, and the festivities follow. We burn the effigies of Ravana, we immerse idols of Ganesh, Durga into ponds, lakes, oceans.
So why is there no Durga, Rama, to fight the present day Evils? Why is Krishna not coming to fight the Corruption?
Why aren’t there any more battles against the POVERTY, POLLUTION, POPULATION GROWTH, OBESITY, CRIME facing the world.
Maybe Gods are taking a break in Alps. Or they should be feeling we are not worthy fighting for!
The evil has entered into us and we stopped noticing anything wrong about it. We started living with it, supporting it. Battle has to start within us and as long as we have no intention to fight we will continue to celebrate the same old festivals!
Happy VIJAYA DASHAMI, DUSSERA
